HOUSEPLANTS

GREEN OR WITH FLOWERS?

Houseplants create a lovely atmosphere at the office and at home: in the living room, hall, bathroom and bedroom even.

There is a special plant for every spot in the home.

When buying a houseplant, you should always bear in mind where you want to put the plant. This is important in terms of the temperature and the light required by the plant.

Try to avoid temperature fluctuations and draft during transport.

Almost all the plants we sell can stay in the same pot for at least a year.

If you repot the plant, use some quality potting soil. The plant’s roots only have limited space from which to draw their nutrients. The potting soil has to create a balance between air and moisture. Plants need both water and oxygen in order to absorb nutrients.

Add some fertiliser several times a year. For many plants, such as orchids, there are special fertilisers on the market. The plants need to draw their nutrients from a limited space. When watering your plants, regularly add liquid fertiliser to the water, especially during the growth and flowering season (spring – autumn). Alternatively, you can use food spikes.

There are no real fixed rules in terms of watering your plants, because there are several factors that determine how much or little water your plants will need. The most common mistake is keeping the soil constantly wet. Roots of plants that are constantly wet will rot or attract mould.

Ensure sufficient drainage: there should always be a way out for any excess water. Bear in mind that terracotta plant pots will absorb water and plastic pots will not.
